Michael C. Hawthorne, PhD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist in independent practice serving children, adolescents, adults and families, specializing in the treatment of attention and behavioral problems, mood and anxiety disorders, spiritual issues and developmental challenges.

Dr. Hawthorne earned his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1988 following an internship at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, one of the teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School. He has conducted an outpatient psychotherapy practice at the Northshore Group since its inception in 1989. Dr. Hawthorne worked and consulted in inpatient, residential and outpatient programs in both public and private settings. After beginning his practice focused predominantly on treating children, his time is now split between adolescent, young adult and senior adult populations. He is a member of the Knoxville Area, Tennessee and American Psychological Associations and for twenty years served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Hawthorne also consulted with the University of Tennessee Athletic Department for several decades, meeting with competitors in all sports for concerns ranging from performance to adjustment and emotional challenges unique to student-athletes.
